The highly anticipated net-stack continued its rapid pace of development. The major milestone of reading data having been reached. Resilience of the network stack was improved with improved handling of larger parcels of data along with better tcp options support. Finally with r19431 we reached the most interesting milestone for most, real network applications:

[Turning off R5 compatibility] fixes R5 networking apps such as Vision, and NetworkTime (both now seem to work fine under Haiku)

For those who have not tried yet, Axel gives instructions on the mailing list.

Already work continues on autoconfiguration with DHCP, improving related areas of unconfigured interface usage, ARP. Systems should now be able to attempt usage of DHCP for testing. Additional application functionality will sound be found with the partially ported libtelnet library and applications.

Increasing network hardware support continued with the addition of an as yet untested vlance VMWare driver, courtesy of Hideyuki Abe, to the disk image.

Work on the app server still continues. Refactoring of ServerWindow has now allowed each to use it's own instance of DrawingEngine which in turn allows each to render in parallel. Work continues in a similar direction for Painter and its use of TextRenderer.

Usability guru, DarkWyrm, has taken to the email preference app with many small tweaks all over: pruning options, rewording labels and more.

Extra tracker add-ons have been created by Ryan Leavengood for convenient marking of many emails as 'new', 'read' and potentially others.
